Lowrance Psychology

ABOUT JOE

Joe Lowrance, Psy.D. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist (License # 2861) in private practice serving the greater Atlanta area.

I received my Doctorate of Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta. My predoctoral internship was completed at Seven Counties Services, a consortium of mental health programs in Louisville, Kentucky. I completed my postdoctoral training at Ridgeview Institute in Atlanta. Ridgeview is a non-profit organization offering a variety of mental health and addiction programs.

In my practice, I treat individuals and couples presenting with a wide variety of problems such as interpersonal difficulties, depression, anxiety, chemical and behavioral addictions, and life stage and transitional issues.

Psychological approaches to treatment I utilize are primarily guided by contemporary psychodynamic thought including attachment theory and interpersonal psychology. These approaches emphasize the importance of healthy, balanced and mutually rewarding relationships in our lives. Among other benefits, these type relationships allow us to process our thoughts and feelings, and to feel connected and understood. While my natural inclination is toward relationship-oriented approaches to treatment, I am well-versed in a variety of strategies and will likely use a combination of approaches when working with a client over time.

Of primary importance is the working relationship between client and therapist. This working alliance is critical for success. I seek to develop a safe and secure environment in the therapy setting, one that allows the client the comfort to explore and consider issues in the most open and honest way possible.
